What MOQ Actually Means
MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) is the smallest production run a factory will accept. For ceramics it’s typically expressed per item, per design, or per container. A common setup: 6000 pieces per shape. Lower MOQs mean more flexibility but usually a higher unit price.
Typical MOQs by Product
Standard catalog shapes: 6000 pcs. Custom OEM with new molds: 10000 pcs to amortize tooling. Decorated or decal-heavy items may require higher minimums because decal setup is fixed-cost. OEM vs ODM choices directly affect these numbers.
Mixed-Container Tips
Most factories let you mix multiple shapes, sizes, and even colors in one container to meet the overall minimum. This is the single best way for smaller importers to access factory pricing without stocking huge quantities of a single SKU. Plan your mix around your sales velocity per shape.
Lead-Time Breakdown
A realistic timeline: sampling 2–4 weeks → material prep and molding 1–2 weeks → mass production 3–5 weeks → in-house QC and packing 1 week → ocean freight 25–45 days depending on route. Expect 8–14 weeks door-to-door for a new order; reorders are faster once tooling exists.
How to Shorten It
Start sampling before you’ve finalized all designs, use existing molds where possible (ODM), and book factory slots early before peak seasons (pre-holiday demand spikes globally). Clear, complete briefs also cut sampling rounds.
